Pushover alternative: Acciti vs Pushover
Both turn one HTTP request into a notification, with the same -2 to 2 priorities and emergencies that repeat until acknowledged. Pushover is the pick if you need Android. Acciti has a free plan, and its paid plans add heartbeats for cron jobs, verified webhooks from Stripe, GitHub and Sentry, and escalation to the next person on call.

Choose Pushover if
- You or someone you alert uses Android.
- You want to pay once and never see a bill.
- Your scripts already speak Pushover's API and nothing about them needs to change.
Choose Acciti if
- You want an unanswered emergency to wake the next person on a rota, not just repeat on one phone.
- You want to know when a cron job or backup stops running, in the same app.
- You want Stripe, GitHub, Sentry or App Store events verified and turned into alerts without writing a relay.
- You want a Lock Screen Live Activity for an emergency in progress, and delivery receipts per device.
Moving from Pushover
- 1Sign in to Acciti, install the app on your iPhone or Mac and copy your user key.
- 2Create a sender token for each script or service, in place of a Pushover application token.
- 3Send JSON to
https://acciti.com/v1/messageswith the token in anAuthorization: Bearerheader.user, message, title, priority, sound, url, retryandexpiremean what they mean in Pushover, andurl_titleisurlTitle. - 4Keep priority 2 for the alerts that should wake you, and attach an escalation policy if someone else should hear it next.
The API documentation has every request in curl, Python, JavaScript, Swift and Go.
Before, with PushoverPushover docs
Pushover
curl -s \ --form-string "token=$PUSHOVER_TOKEN" \ --form-string "user=$PUSHOVER_USER" \ --form-string "message=Backup failed" \ https://api.pushover.net/1/messages.jsonAfter, with Acciti
Acciti
curl https://acciti.com/v1/messages \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $ACCITI_TOKEN" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"user": "your-user-key", "message": "Backup failed"}'Questions
- Is Acciti's API compatible with Pushover's?
- Close, not identical. The fields and the -2 to 2 priorities match, but Acciti takes JSON with a bearer token where Pushover takes a token form field, so each call needs a small rewrite rather than a new hostname.
- How many messages does Pushover allow?
- Pushover allows 10,000 messages a month per account for free, shared across its applications, and answers HTTP 429 over the limit. Pushover for Teams raises that to 25,000.
- Does Acciti have an Android app?
- No. Acciti runs on iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac, and as web push in a browser.
