Choose ntfy if

  • You want to run the server yourself and read its source.
  • You or your team use Android.
  • You want to publish without an account, by naming a topic.

Choose Acciti if

  • You are on iPhone and want a native app for iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac.
  • You need an emergency that repeats until it is acknowledged, then escalates.
  • You want heartbeats for cron jobs and verified webhooks from Stripe, GitHub and Sentry.
  • You want to know which device received each message, from delivery receipts.

Moving from ntfy

  1. 1Sign in to Acciti, install the app and copy your user key.
  2. 2Create a sender token for each script that publishes to a topic today.
  3. 3Replace each publish with a JSON POST to https://acciti.com/v1/messages. ntfy's priorities 1 to 5 map to Acciti's -2 to 2, with 5 becoming 2.
  4. 4Move jobs you watch by hand to heartbeats, so a job that never starts raises an alert.

The API documentation has every request in curl, Python, JavaScript, Swift and Go.

Before, with ntfyntfy docs

ntfy
curl -H "Priority: urgent" -d "Backup failed" ntfy.sh/my-topic

After, with Acciti

Acciti
curl https://acciti.com/v1/messages \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $ACCITI_TOKEN" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"user": "your-user-key", "message": "Backup failed", "priority": 2}'

Questions

Can ntfy repeat an alert until I acknowledge it?
ntfy's publishing docs describe no repeat-until-acknowledged behaviour. Its paid plans on ntfy.sh can place up to 3 phone calls for a message instead.
Does self-hosted ntfy work on iPhone?
Only with help from ntfy.sh. A self-hosted server needs upstream-base-url set so a poll request reaches iPhones through ntfy.sh, and without it delivery can take hours, according to ntfy's configuration docs.
Is Acciti open source?
No. Acciti is a hosted service, run on servers in Germany.
